Principal Cooper Receives Best Practice Award from TAAE

The Best Practice Award is presented to an alternative school that focuses on an established outstanding and promising classroom practice. Impacting school climate, the focus of the best practice at ALPHA, was a priority for the newly appointed principal last school year. Mr. Cooper found himself asking how this school was different from the traditional schools. The need for a truly “alternative” option was imperative for students who were not successful in the traditional school setting.
Changes implemented this year included moving to an online self-paced structure with one teacher for each core subject and adding two success coaches to support students. ALPHA has an Optional Flexible School day which means student attendance is based on minutes, not seat time in class periods. Part of the restructuring also included adding a large open space with flexible seating, six small group study rooms, and an outdoor seating area. All of these changes work together to create our multi-level flexible schedule.
ALPHA has the flexibility to meet all of our students' needs which is allowing our students to be successful.
